It's Official: Ohio's Amish Country Tops Las Vegas
Guinness World Records® accepts Ohio’s Amish Country bid for the world’s largest buffet
WALNUT CREEK, OHIO—Almost three months after the event, Guinness World Records® announced that the Holmes County Lodging Council officially set the world record for the largest buffet on March 24.
With 539 different dishes at the Holmes County Amish Flea Market, the region in Northeast Ohio squelched Las Vegas’ record of 510 dishes, set in March 2006 at the Las Vegas Hilton.
“Our area has always been known for excellent home-style food,” said Tanya Miller, event coordinator with the Holmes County Tourism Bureau, “And this recognition helps establish Ohio’s Amish Country as a leader in fantastic cuisines as well as community involvement. We couldn’t have accomplished this without many local restaurants, the Holmes County Flea Market and dozens of volunteers.”
With the record officially broken, Miller challenges Las Vegas to match the effort. “We were able to benefit our local food pantry with our buffet. With an ultimate goal of charity in mind, we welcome any contenders to our buffet record,” said Miller.
A cookbook with many of the buffet’s recipes is available for purchase at www.visitamishcountry.com for $10. Holmes County is at the center of the nation’s largest Amish community, and the region’s Amish-style restaurants are a favorite in the Midwest.
